A Young Man's Insight on the Role of his Parents

History:

This speech was written by me on March 2006 which I delivered during the baccalaureate mass at Philippine Science High School - Central Mindanao Campus previously located at Mindanao Civic Center, Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

Have you seen birds nourish their young? They lay their eggs in their nest and when it hatches they feed it, protect it and defend it from predators. They also teach their young to fly when it's old enough and when the young is ready, they leave their nest, and they go out to the world and soar high in the skies, and live a life of their own.

Our parents are like birds, nourishing us from the start - in our mother's womb, and when we go out, they shower us with every nourishment that they can give. They nourish us physically, spiritually, morally and many other forms of nourishment that they can give.

Our parents protect us from everything that may be harmful to us. They protect us from sickness, danger and most importantly the evils of the world that we live - the predators of our society. They will do everything to keep us in the right path of life. Our parents discipline us. It's the way they protect us from the evils of the world. So let us not be angry when our parents discipline us. Instead listen, and put it into heart. They're protecting us, teaching us, and they're loving us. Disciplining is the most unique and powerful way that our parent show their love for us.

Our parents raised us in our very beautiful nest - our sweet home. Our home is a place of love and dreams. It's a place where you can always go to, a place to share and celebrate your triumph, a place where you can shed your tears but always have a shoulder to cry on. It's the place where we learned love. It's the place where we first knew God. It's the place where we learned our first lessons It's the place where we build our dreams and ambitions. It's the place where we learned the most essential things in life - good values which help us in facing the challenges of life. All of these good things are inculcated to us by our dear parents. It's the home where our parents raised us to be upright persons. Persons that are ready to face the world and the challenges of life. The home is engineered by our parents but the home cannot be created without us. It's a place that we and our parents have created.. Home is our family.

In behalf of the Graduating Class 2006, I, Albert Janwin Celera Cudal would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and utmost love to you, our beloved parents for everything, for equipping us with values that we will need in facing the harsh world, for protecting us, for raising us, and for sacrificing for us. For providing us a home, a family that we can always go back to, for providing us with our needs, for giving us the gift of knowledge that we acquire by going to school, and most importantly for loving us; loving us unconditionally for with your love we experience God's love. You, our parents are the greatest gift we received from God. You are our heroes.

So my dear fellow scholars, let's fly and soar high for our parents for our success is their success and our happiness is their happiness. Let's not waste their hardships and dreams for us.
